Bio Mike Needham is rapidly becoming known as one of the finest players of both tenor and bass trombone in the west Texas area. Having attended both Eastern New Mexico University and Texas Tech University, he has been involved vocally and instrumentally in a variety of ensembles and performance situations.
As a vocalist, he has served with the Eastern New Mexico University Singers, Eastern New Mexico University Chamber Choir, Texas Tech University Singers, and the Texas Tech University Choir. During his time in school he has been involved in Oklahoma, Don Giovanni, and Beyond the Thorn. He has sung professionally with the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, performing both in Verdi’s Othello and La Traviata. Recently, he has worked with Summer Overtures Theatre performing Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, Cox & Box, and Trial by Jury.
As a trombonist he has played with a variety of ensembles at both Eastern New Mexico University and Texas Tech University. He has also played at the UNC Greeley Jazz Festival, Las Vegas Music Festival, the International Trombone Festival, the Beaches Jazz Festival in Toronto, ON, the Texas Music Educators Association conference, and at the regional International Association of Jazz Educators conference at Baylor University.
Mr. Needham currently serves as Assistant Director for the Asbury United Methodist Church choir, bass trombonist for the Roswell Symphony Orchestra, and plays occasionally with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. In November 2006 he will start working as a trombonist for Norwegian Cruise Lines. Mike is proud to be an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
